History

The thought of a new church in Brantford was awakened in Gary Dix in the summer of 1997.  Simultaneously, God was also igniting the same passion in the hearts and minds of Greg Guthrie and Reg Lewicki Sr.

In the fall of 1997, as Gary, Greg, and Reg began to share their thoughts with one another, they were excited to recognize the unity of their vision, and the support of their spouses Barb Dix, Bev Guthrie, and Val Lewicki.  They clearly sensed that God was in this. In November 1997, the Lewicki’s and the Guthrie’s participated in initiating a contemporary, evangelical, monthly outreach called “Saturday Night Alive”.  Gary and his wife Barb immediately provided their support to this venture.  It was enthusiastically received and many expressed the desire for a similar Sunday worship venue.  God seemed to be confirming His desire for another church in Brantford which would minister to our generation via culturally relevant styles.

Gary, Greg, and Reg enrolled in a six-month church planting seminar sponsored by Vision Ministries in January 1998.  Their shared their vision with David and Gail Hislop who had been active in the Youth Ministry. God immediately gave them a desire to become a part of this new work.  The group planned for a church birth date of April 4, 1999, Easter Sunday.

Gordon Rumford and his wife agreed to become our first pastoral couple, but by the end of 1999 BCC had grown to the point where we required full-time staff, and they were unable to take on additional responsibilities at BCC. God led us to Andy and Theresa Flatt who came on board in April 2000.

The rapid growth  of the church also made it necessary to consider a larger and perhaps more permanent facility. In April, 2000, BCC made a three-year commitment to lease 65 George St., and two years later God enabled us to become sole owners of that church building.

In 2002 BCC added to its’ ministries a Christian counselling ministry under the direction of Shirley Rushton to meet the needs of our growing congregation.  The continued growth of BCC also made it necessary for another pastor to join the team.  In January 2003 Dan Barber was hired for this part-time role.

In December of 2005 we bid farewell to Dan and Cathy Barber as they responded to an invitation by Compass Point Bible Church in Burlington.

By October 2006, we were able to hire a full time pastor, Reg Lewicki Jr. who now oversees the areas of youth, College and Careers, and worship arts.

In 2008 we welcomed Lynn Felker as our Director of Children's Ministries, overseeing the Sunday School, Nursery, and Junior Youth Programs.

In 2010 Don Craw came on board in the position of Community Support Pastor.  In this role, Don is responsible for the development of BCC's Compassion and Care ministry, as well as initiating and implementing ministries between BCC and the Community of Brantford.

Throughout the early era of BCC’s history, three foundational core values emerged to capture our Vision:

Brant Community Church, a fellowship of Christians committed to celebrating God, communicating His love, and caring for people.
